The purpose

When experiencing unstable internet connectivity on an Android device (child device) tethered to another Android device (parent device), let’s review the settings to check for potential issues.

Actual events

Network connectivity from client devices is unstable, frequently resulting in errors such as DNS connection failures. This seems to occur more often at the end of the month, although the reason is unclear.

Confirmation settings

Change of priority network

Step

Open the “Settings” on the parent device.

Open ‘Network and Internet’.

open the mobile network (NTT DOCOMO).

”詳細設定”を開きます。

Open “Advanced Settings.”

Select “3G/GSM (Auto).”

With a new device, there’s also a 5G setting, so even ‘4G/3G/GSM (auto)’ might improve.

Limitation

This setting will slow down your network connection.

Result

Tethering connectivity has become significantly more stable than before the settings change.

PR

Other

While the above settings will improve the situation, they are subject to certain constraints. If you encounter difficulties implementing these changes, you may wish to try the following alternatives. (Personally, I believe this is only a temporary fix and doesn’t address the root cause.)

Parent device

- Turn off tethering → ON

- Turn off mobile data → ON

- restart device

Child device

- Turn off Wifi → ON
